3 Problems That Couples Have When They Move In Together

Moving in with your partner is a big step and it can be a difficult time. A lot of couples find that they either get on great or it spells the end of the relationship entirely. There are so many amazing things about moving in together but if you think that it’s all going to be great, you’re going to be in for a shock. It’s a difficult adjustment and it’s important that you learn how to live together without driving each other crazy if the relationship is going to work. There are certain things that most couples struggle with or big mistakes that they make when they first move in together. If you’re about to move in with your partner, make sure that you watch out for these things.

Doing It For The Wrong Reasons

The housing market for millennials is a nightmare at the minute. Most young people can’t afford to save up the money they need for a deposit so they end up paying ridiculously high rent on a place. A lot of couples decide that moving in together is the right thing to do because it’ll save them a lot of money on their rent so they can start saving more to buy their own house one day. But if that’s the only reason that you’re moving in together, it might not be the best choice. You need to think about how the relationship is going and whether you’re actually ready to live together just yet. It’s important that you’re moving in together because you’re both ready to take the relationship to the next level. Saving money should be an added bonus, not the reason for moving in together in the first place.

Arguing About Housework

General housework is a big cause of arguments amongst couples that have recently moved in together, especially if you’ve both got different ideas about how you like the house. If one of you is very messy and the other likes things neat and tidy all of the time, it can be tough. Arguments also come up if one person feels like they’re doing all of the work around the house while the other doesn’t do anything. If you’re really struggling with this, it might be a good idea to get a cleaning company like SwiftClean in every now and again so the house is always nice. But before you do that, you need to try to compromise and divide the work up fairly so nobody feels like they’re doing everything.

Not Spending Quality Time Together

When you live together, you’ll spend most of your time together. That’s great but it often leads to a lack of real quality time. It’s easy to fall into a bit of a rut and spend every night watching TV together and doing nothing else. It’s important that you make an effort to do nice things together, just like you did before you lived together. If you can’t do that, the relationship will fizzle out and you’ll forget why you like each other so much in the first place.

Moving in together is a make or break time for any relationship, but as long as you take the other person’s feelings into account and try to compromise, you should be fine.

  1. I’ve had countless arguments with partners over housework. They say the number one thing to fight about in a relationship is money, but I have strong evidence for it being housework. Great post— thanks for sharing! Q
