Areas To Watch Out For When Renovating

A renovation is a major project, it can literally knock at least one part of your home out of commission for weeks or even months. You’ve got to do some serious planning to make sure you’re never going to be inconveniencing yourself for too long. In the same vein, you’ve got to be careful with certain areas of your house when you’re trying to get a renovation up and running. Some systems hidden away in the walls are crucial for keeping your home functional, and accidentally rupturing one or two of them whilst you’re trying to make your four walls more comfortable is just going to cost you more time and money.

So with that in mind, here are a few areas in your home that you need to watch out for when you’re planning a renovation.

The Attic

The attic is a considerable part of your house, and it’s one place you’re going to need to keep an eye on if you’ve got plans to remodel your house. Seeing as it’s part of the ceiling, and that stretches over your entire home, you’ll want to inspect the room before any moves are made. There’s a lot of hot air up in the attic, seeing as heat rises, and that means the room can get very humid. Every time you’re up there you can immediately notice the temperature difference. A leaky roof can cause moisture to seep into the attic walls and floor, which can lead to a lot of mold growing in its place. Also, if you’re thinking about taking walls down, you need to be absolutely sure that you can make that happen. A contractor may be able to go up in the attic and tell you which walls are load bearing, but some jobs require structural engineers. You need to be prepared for anything when it comes to removing walls because it can definitely affect your attic and the structural integrity of your home.

The Bathroom

The plumbing in your house needs some extra special attention. It’s something that runs all through your walls, from the kitchen to the laundry room and bathrooms. Plumbing problems are no joke! You’re going to want a good plumbing company on hand, such as Doherty Plumbing if you’re planning a bathroom remodel. You may be able to get away with DIYing things like tiling your shower and floor, but when it comes to plumbing just call the professionals, because a plunger just isn’t going to cut it!

The Kitchen

The kitchen is the hub of the home, so if you’re planning to live in your home while you renovate your kitchen you’re going to have to do some major planning. A kitchen remodel can be unpredictable at times, projects and the delivery of important materials and appliances can get delayed. You may have to set aside a budget for eating outside of your home or bring the microwave to the living room and get out your old college dorm refrigerator and live off hot pockets and microwaveable meals for the duration of the renovation. It’s not going to be an easy adjustment, but it’ll make you appreciate your newly renovated kitchen when it’s complete!
