If saving money is one of your goals this year then one of the easiest ways do that is by staying at home, I know that sounds super boring. Well, it doesn’t have to be. There are lots of things you can do in your home, and enjoy yourself, and with a little bit of effort, your home will be somewhere you want to be all the time.
First, you might need to start with a few chores and get your home comfortable enough for you to want to be there more. Whether it’s a water cleanup company, someone to fix your boiler or getting new windows in – whatever work needs doing in your house to make you feel comfortable, then get it done. However, only do this with jobs that you definitely can not do yourself. Painting, decorating, fixing door handles and putting up pictures are all things that you can do yourself and will also give you a project and something to keep you busy instead of sitting on the sofa, bored and wishing you were out having fun and spending money.
If you’re not a fan of DIY projects, then outsource these tasks. However, if you do enjoy a bit of fixing and mending and are the creative type then rather than just fixing the basics and necessities in your house, have a look at doing some Upcycling – taking an old piece of grubby furniture and turning it into something unique, personal and modern. If you don’t have any furniture to do this with then ask around, there are bound to be family and friends who have unwanted items or look online for people giving stuff away.
The fun times with friends doesn’t have to stop just because you’re saving money and chances are your friends will be in the same boat too. They’ll want to spend quality time with you and have fun, so to keep costs down for everyone, invite them over but request a potluck-style gathering where everyone brings something to share. You can take it in turns hosting too.
How about a staycation? Not just booking time off work to stay in the same country, but how about actually spending time at home. You could spend the first few days reorganizing your entire house and doing odd jobs. A day or two lazing around in front of the TV, a day out or even a couple of days away which won’t be as expensive as a complete vacation.
You could also have a fun day pampering with your friends. No cost needs to be involved at all if you give each other pedicures, facials, and manicures rather than visiting an expensive salon. Make sure you’ve also got a subscription for Netflix or Amazon Prime too. This will save on going to the movies and renting films. There’s an endless stream of entertainment, so you’ll never get bored.
