I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to say that there’s a lot to think about when you’re moving. From the finances to the logistics of it, there are at least million and one things to think about. And of course, you’ll still end up forgetting something. Nobody’s perfect, especially when we’re having to deal with the stress and chaos of moving. Here are just a few things that you might forget about when you’re moving.
Label your boxes
How many times have you reached your new home and you’re thirsty as hell? Only to realize that you have no idea where you packed the cups and glasses! When you’re getting everything ready, it can be tempting to just throw things in boxes and forget them for a little while. I know that packing is a such a time-consuming task, and you have a move in/move out deadline, that labeling just seems like a waste of time, but trust me, you’ll be so grateful you took those extra few seconds to write “dishes” on the side of the box when you’re dying of thirst.
Think about the awkward items
Are you sure the sofa will fit in the car? Are you really sure? Nothing can be more frustrating than realizing that some piece of furniture doesn’t fit and you’ll need to find help at the last minute. When it comes to your larger or more complicated items, measure them and figure out how you’ll move them well in advance. If you want to move your pool table, don’t trust that the moving van will have space. And even if it does, don’t trust that the movers will take the best possible care of it.
It’s always easier with movers
If you’re thinking that the best way to move house is to try and deal with it all yourself, you might be setting yourself up for a lot of stress. Hiring movers might seem like a needless expense but it can make the entire process so much easier and more pleasant. Hiring a local furniture removalist is always going to be a whole lot less stressful than trying to figure out how you’re going to fit your couch into the back of your car. Sure, it might cost you a little bit extra but being able to get your entire move done in a single trip is well worth the investment.
These things might seem small and unimportant, but they definitely add up. And when you’re dealing with a move, the very last thing you need is extra stress. Make sure that you’ve checked these things off your list, it’ll help your move go a lot smoother.
