How to Get Your Home Ready for the Holiday Season

Who has been watching Hallmark Christmas movies 24/7? Me! If you’re like me, and you can’t wait until Christmas, it might be a good idea to start preparing your house for the festivities a little early. If you’re entertaining your friends and relatives this year, you should want to show off your home at its best, so you have to start decorating and planning to make you and your guests feel welcome and comfortable. Below you will find a few tips on where to start.

Deep Clean

Before you pull out any decorations, ornaments, or Christmas trees, make sure your home is clean. I’m not just talking about your regular Saturday morning cleaning, I’m talking deep clean! Get the carpets professionally cleaned, take off all the linens and curtains, and get them washed. Dust the walls, baseboards, light fixtures, and ceiling. Oh yeah, be sure to clean your tile and grout. All it takes is one nosy relative to peep behind your shower curtain and tell everybody about the mold in your shower to ruin your Christmas. Whether or not you’re entertaining this season, do not go into 2019 with a dirty house. Make your home sparkle like an ornament on your Christmas tree. Ok, that sounds super cheesy, but you know what I mean lol.

How to Get Your Home Ready for the Holiday SeasonIt is never too early to start shopping for Christmas decorations. Honestly, if you’re just getting started, you’re already late. You can go to the store to browse and get a few ideas, but don’t take too long, the good stuff may be gone by the time you go back to purchase what you wanted. It’s best that you envision what you want your home to look like, plan out your holiday color scheme, and then take a trip to stores like, At Home, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or HomeGoods. Those are the best stores when it comes to making your home look more like a stylish Christmas showroom.

Outdoor Lighting

If you plan on putting up outdoor lights, but you’re worried about your electric bill, you might want to go with solar powered string lights that you can wrap around your porch or front door and illuminate your home in the right way. You don’t have to do too much when it comes to outdoor lights, a simple lighted wreath will do or even simple driveway lights can give off a holiday vibe.

Soft Furnishings

When the cold weather arrives, we are all in need of extra comfort. If you spend most nights on the sofa curling up with a book or a great movie, you might need to invest in a few throws and throw pillows. However, you can also upgrade your curtains to thermal backed ones that will make your place feel cozy and comfortable. They will even add a lavish and luxe feel to your home.

Improve Your Insulation

The holidays and cold weather go hand in hand and you don’t want your home to feel drafty, especially while your guests are visiting. This might be the right time to get a professional assessment of your home’s energy efficiency and consider getting new stylish Wood Windows that match your decor and keep the heat inside at the same time. Also, check the condition of your exterior doors and window frames. You want your money to go toward gifts, not toward an increasing energy bill.

How are you all getting prepared for the holidays?
